Hello to everybody from the capital of Uganda
As I expected, the people over here so far have been really friendly. I was greeted at Entebbe Airport with the banner “USDC welcome Mr. Mark”. There were flags and banners on the main road to Kampala. Though these could have been for President Ahmedinejad.
The journey to the hotel was only 45 minutes, but plenty of time for my driver Katongole to demonstrate the Ugandan national sport of overtaking. I won’t be taking it up. The dead dogs in the road would be too much of an obstacle.
It’s fair to say that the Kampala City View Guest House is modest, by Western standards (still to see a white face since leaving the airport) but the room has all the basics and there is a pleasant terrace overlooking the city.
Struggled surprisingly to catch up on missed sleep in the early afternoon – as did the colony of ants I seem to share a bed with. Need to sort this out somehow.
