EducAid, Sierra Leone,

Founded in the UK in 1994, EducAid promotes education among the underprivileged and war affected young people of Sierra Leone.

In Sierra Leone, there are no free secondary schools, which means that the poorest cannot access secondary education at all.

EducAid believes;
•    Access to education promotes dignity and empowerment.
•    Through holistic and academic learning, it is possible to achieve improvement in personal, social and economic well-being.
•    Education can overcome poverty, build democracy and bring the foundation for stable development.

The organisation runs 9 free schools catering for nearly 3000 students. These are made up of a primary school, junior secondary school, and a combined junior and senior secondary school. Through an innovative system of personalised and holistic learning, EducAid seeks to provide good quality education to the poorest, regardless of sex, religion, preference or age.

Despite working with some of the most disadvantaged youngsters in the country, the public exam performances of the schools are consistently excellent.  In a country where the average pass rate is 40% at the junior level and 17% at the senior level, EducAid achieve above 90% pass rates each year.

In 2009, all EducAid secondary schools were in the top ten schools in their respective districts and one actually came first, furthermore one pupil received the highest grades in the country in the senior exam. So far four students have been selected for international scholarships as a result of the work of EducAid.   EducAid also supports other organisations and existing schools in improving the quality of their delivery, and partners with UK schools.
