Anjali House

Siem Reap, Cambodia
In partnership with ConCERT

Anjali House is registered as a local Non-Governmental Organisation. Created in 2006 under the umbrella of the Angkor Photography Festival Association, Anjali provides refuge, care and education for nearly 80 under-privileged children between the ages of 4 and 16 years old.

All the children that attend the centre come from impoverished local families where the children previously had little or no opportunity to attend public school and were encouraged to beg, or work, often scavenging for recyclable materials or selling souvenirs to tourists. Many of the parents have disabilities and/or suffer from addictions to drugs, alcohol and gambling.

One of the greatest challenges facing the development of Cambodia is access to education, skills training and healthcare. In Cambodia there are approximately 5.1 million children under 15 years of age. Despite government school building programs and a large amount of work by local and International NGO's, primary school education is only available to approximately 60% of the nation's children.

Anjali works to provide both on-site education, and workshops in the creative arts, they also subsidizes public school for each child and supports their families by providing rice allowances, psycho-social services and micro-credit loans.

Anjali House is a safe haven where kids find support, friendship and shelter from the hardships of everyday life in Cambodia. We aim to create an environment in which kids can be kids, playing, learning, discovering their strengths, and having fun. In addition, through education and our Youth Program we aim to equip Anjali kids with skills to take into the workforce and the opportunity to create a brighter future for themselves.
