Association Dufatanye Inshuti z’Abana


Association Dufatanye Inshuti z’Abana is non-profit organisation based in the town of Rwamagana, Kigabiro sector, Cyanya cell.

 
It is situated 60 km from Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. This association was created in July 1997 by the former employees of the Fred Rwigema Orphanage which closed in that year.
 
Its mission is to contribute to the well-being of orphaned and vulnerable children, members of the association and the community of Rwamagana.
  
There are currently 27 members who make up the general assembly and 150 beneficiaries of whom the majority are children orphaned by the genocide as well as other vulnerable children.
 
The association conducts its activities throughout the country but especially in the Eastern Province of Rwanda where it is based.
 
The organisation’s objectives are:
 
  • Help vulnerable and orphaned children to integrate better into the community.
  • Create employment.
  • Create a climate of hope for vulnerable and orphaned children.
  • Promote equality and gender balance.
  • Combat sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS
 
 
Current activities the association is involved with include:
 
  • Children Assistance programme (orphans and vulnerable children)
  • Livestock
  • Honey production
  • Primary school:  The charity wants to build six classes by 2012.
  • Creation of a multipurpose room
  • Computer training Centre
