Located in the mid-Western part of Nepal, the Interdependent Society Surkhet (ISS) is a Nepali registered grass- roots charity, supporting underprivileged communities facing poverty in the region.
The key principle objectives of the organisation are:
- Improving the traditional agricultural techniques, providing support to livestock production development so that the people of the community can raise their access and control upon their basic needs.
- Advancing the conservation and protection of natural resources, materials and environment in order to create income generating resources.
- Supporting the improvement in the deteriorating health condition of the oppressed and underprivileged people, improvement in the maternity health and also assist in increasing the accessibility to the health related facilities among the local people.
- Assisting the target communities for increasing their literacy rate and maintain equal participation of both the male and female to educational activities as well as enhance the quality of education for raising up their level of awareness.
ISS is involved in a variety of projects and activities, inter alia the Reconciliation and Peace Initiative for Social Empowerment project, which has the following aims:
- To enhance the capacity of poor and marginalized people for establishing peace, harmony and create appropriate environment for good governance.
- To identify the issues of conflict and discriminations based on caste, gender, race, faith, plurality and identity etc and facilitate discussion and assist to find out the options of reducing those discriminations.
- Assist to identify the root causes of rural poverty and prepare the action plans of sharing resources to overcome the problems.
- Educate the women, poor and marginalized people on the issue to human right, peace just and building the harmony among the people.
- Identify the conflict-victimized people and provide the counseling support for their reconciliation and rehabilitation.

- Civic Education Programme
Around twenty thousand poor and marginalized people are end beneficiaries of ISS’s amazing work.

MRDF exists to bring about significant and long term change in some of the world's most marginalised communities, and to empower people to change structures that are oppressive and unjust.
To fulfil this charge, MRDF has 3 main priorities:
- contribute to the eradication of poverty, through transformative long-term development, and rapid disaster relief
- build the capacity and increase the effectiveness of local organizations to work with communities in a way that encourages their participation and empowerment, and increases opportunity
- challenge injustice at a structural level, thereby increasing impact and influence by strengthening community networks overseas, and building the skills and confidence of individuals to exercise their rights and working in partnership in the UK to help the church develop a critical understanding of the causes of poverty, make informed choices (modeling lives that are ethical, sustainable and compassionate) and take positive action in the pursuit of justice.
MRDF supports more than 43 local, community-based organizations in 21 of the poorest countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, helping individuals and communities to transform their lives and become more self-sufficient.
