RAMAT exists to empower and improve the livelihoods of the local communities in rural areas of Ngorongoro District, Tanzania, and to reduce poverty by providing skills through community education and rural enterprise development. RAMAT operates in Soit-Sambu and Ololosokwan wards in 9 villages, serving approximately 10,000 residents.  RAMAT is facilitating a number of projects that work together to improve the lives of local people.

 

RAMAT is striving to assist the local communities of Ngorongoro district improve and promote their livelihoods to eliminate poverty. In this manner, RAMAT has main programmes:

  • Community Livelihoods Programme in which the local community has access to skills and resource to establish and manage their small and medium enterprises.
  • Supporting a microfinance program on community-based savings and credit initiatives through the VICOBA model.
  • Supporting a functional literacy programme for adults and youth who are illiterate
  • Supporting a leadership development programme for Maasai women
  • Community Media programme in which RAMAT is establishing a community radio station, facilitating citizen journalists to ensure that the people of Ngorongoro have access to information and means of communicating that information to other communities and the relevant authorities.

 

In providing such assistance RAMAT is working to better the lives of people in the Ngorongoro community.
