My Small Help Nepal
Kathmandu, Nepal
In partnership with My Small Help UK
In Nepal a huge percentage of children of primary school age who do not go to school. In many cases this is because their parents require them to stay at home and care for younger siblings, or to go out to work to help support the family. Nepal currently suffers from one of the highest levels of illiteracy in Asia.
Due to years of civil conflict and unrest, local schools in rural areas and outlying urban areas have suffered from a lack of funding. Teachers are barely paid, teacher training is minimal and the quality of education provided to children incredibly low. Children are not encouraged to attend school but when they do, the conditions are such that they do not want to remain. Schools are run down, often have no roofs, walls or basic resources.
My Small Help Nepal (MSH) focuses on providing children with quality education. They aim to provide training to teachers so that the quality of education provided to children improves, thereby stimulating children to stay at/attend school. MSH Nepal also provides resources to schools and helps to improve the basic infrastructure, providing roofs, clean water and sanitation.
In partnership with one particular local school that also cares for orphans, MSH Nepal provides regular funds through child sponsorship to assist with the running costs and support required to ensure each of these children continues to attend school and receive the best possible education for their age.
A new project starting in 2010 is to provide Early Childhood Development (ECD) training to school teachers. ECD is a government priority to help them reach the Millennium Development Goal 2 - universal primary education. By providing quality ECD to young children (3+ yrs), MSH N will be providing a much needed service to families whose older children would otherwise stay at home to care for their younger siblings. This will also provide an invaluable base for children for when they start primary school.

My Small Help UK
My Small Help (MSH) UK was founded at the beginning of 2007 by a group of friends in the UK and Nepal who shared a common concern for children's rights in Nepal. They believe that education is the key to a brighter future for all children. Their main activities are sponsoring education for children that would otherwise not go to school and contributing to Millennium Development Goal No. 2 - Achieve Universal Primary Education – by improving the quality of primary education received by children in Nepal.
MSH UK became a registered charity in the UK and Nepal in 2008.
