Restless Development - Zambia

Kabwe, Zambia
In partnership with Restless Development UK.

Restless Development is driven forward by young people and young professionals around the world. More than 1,000 young men and women, with an average age of 21 years, lead the direct delivery of our programs in communities across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

With 25 years’ experience in highly effective development models led by young people, that have impacted on crucial needs such as HIV-prevention and improved livelihoods, Restless Development is now leading efforts with UN agencies, Bi-lateral agencies, civil society and governments in Africa and South Asia in how to truly engage young people in development. Some principle objectives and achievements include:

  • The Schools HIV/AIDS Education Programme works in 45 schools in Central Province, Zambia and across six districts covering: Sexual and reproductive health and rights and life skills.
  •  Teacher’s Aids Action Programme works with Zambian student teachers in government funded Colleges of Education in order to improve their skills to deliver HIV/AIDS awareness.
  •   There are about 1000 ex Restless Development volunteers in Zambia. The Ex-Volunteer Network works to offer these young people further opportunities in Zambia and utilise their skills and expertise in development.

One of Restless Development Zambia’s achievements includes the fact that “two years before [Restless Development’s] intervention in the community, one of the most reported cases at the clinics was the issue of teenage pregnancies. The clinic reported an average of 10 pregnancies from the school every year, with in turn increased numbers of school drop-outs. Over the last 12 months we have seen the reduction of teenage pregnancies from 10 cases annually to 4. [Restless Development] has been one of the huge contributors to this development.

At the heart of everything they do, is the belief that young people can and must lead development.
