WhizzKids United

Durban, South Africa
In partnership with AfricAid

Africaid runs WhizzKids United, an innovative approach to HIV prevention in youth which uses football as an educational tool and a rallying point for behavioural change.

Whizz Kids United was developed in response to the staggering number of youth affected my HIV infections in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

The HIV prevalence rate in KwaZulu – Natal is estimated at 16.5% with anti natal clinics in some areas reporting prevalence rates above 60%, making this province the epicentre of HIV/AIDS crisis both nationally and globally.

From WKU’s experience of working with youth they realised that kids learn and respond best when they are motivated and when the method of learning is appropriate, dynamic, goal orientated and delivered in a language that kids speak and understand.

WKU recognises that football is the perfect tool with which to teach as it speaks a universal language which appeals to all children, both boys and girls, and in doing so transcends culture and background.
