Inspiring Accountant | Tanzania

Our partner, based in Loliondo & Arusha (close to Kilimanjaro) in Tanzania is an organisation that empowers and supports pastoralist women and children. Pastoralists are among the poorest people in Tanzania and pastoralist women are further marginalised. Our partner focuses on three main areas of support: education, economic empowerment and land rights. Their focus is on empowering pastoralist women so they can bring the change they need to their communities themselves; there are currently more than 5,000 members of the council in Northern Tanzania.

The placement would require the volunteer to split their time between the Arusha office and the Loliondo office. Arusha is a town whereas Loliondo is a very rural village five hours away from Arusha. There is a Finance Manager and Finance Officer based in Arusha whilst the rest of the finance team work from the Loliondo office. Our partner used to be quite a small organisation but has grown to quite a large organisation with an annual income of USD 900,000. They now need considerable finance and accounting mentoring and capacity building to ensure their staff and the accounting system are able to handle their increased funding.  Apart from assistance in the transition to Quickbooks, they need a lot of help in streamlining their system and introducing a new financial manual. They also need help with tracking donor funds, budgeting and general cash management.

This placement will last for three months. The accommodation option is either a home stay with the programme manager or a volunteer house, either option wouldn’t cost more than £60 a month (exclusive of food).

Please note that overseas assignments, in this case Tanzania, will incur a placement fee as per the AfID Tailored Volunteer Programme fee scale (see website for more details).
