TANZANIA | Championing Agricultural Enterprising for Future Growth

UK Government funded development programme that provides African farmers with agricultural inputs seeks an experienced accountant to review accounting processes and controls

Start: Oct - Jan     Assignment length: 3+ months     Resources: Airport Pickup, Accomm.

Agriculture makes up a large portion of all employment in Tanzania, as such it makes sense for it to be supported in as many ways as it can – especially considering the unpredictable nature of farming. Our partner works across a variety of countries to ensure that farmers living in impoverished communities have the supplies and equipment they need to produce higher yields of crops. With these supplies, entire communities benefit from a secure food source and the farmer also succeeds in making their business more sustainable. As such the importance of our partner’s work should not be underestimated.

The effects of our partner’s work have been felt across the world and as they continue to grow they require more support with ensuring that the financial controls, processes and budgeting are sufficient to their needs. This may require you to review the processes currently in place and implement changes as you see fit – it is here that your expertise can help make the organisation more cost-effective and ensure that they are making the most of the resources available to them.

The assignment is initially for 3 months, but for the right candidate this could be extended dependent on your availability. This is an excellent opportunity to try your hand at something new and would serve as an excellent first step towards a career in the international development sector, or alternatively it could simply be an eye-opening step back from the office – either way we assure you it would be an unforgettable experience.

Our partner is happy to provide accommodation and can arrange to pick you up from the airport, be sure to bring your sense of adventure and a good sense of humour as you will need strong interpersonal skills and adaptability. We’re looking for outgoing accountants, preferably with experience in managerial roles or commercial roles, but someone with the right attitude and the desire to help those in need would be suitable.

Please note that overseas assignments, in this case Tanzania, will incur a placement fee as per the AfID Tailored Volunteer Programme fee scale (see website for more details).

Fancy a change of scenery? Then please contact us on +44 (0) 208 741 7000 or email info@afid.org.uk to get your adventure started.

Please forward our details to any accountants in your network that you think would be interested in our work.

Not for you? Not a problem, we have over 170 partners in over 35 countries, all of whom would love someone with your skills to volunteer with them. Remember we can tailor your assignment to your needs so there will be something that is more suited to your availability and needs.
