INDIA | Providing Guidance and Skills to Indian Students in Preparation for Employment

Experienced Accountant needed to support a growing Career Development Organisation aimed at increasing employability for Indian students.

Start: Oct - Jan     Assignment length: 3 weeks     Resources: Accommodation

Our partner works with a diverse range of students to develop their vocational skills and support them through the transition from education to employment. This includes helping them to gain a better understanding on the aspects of leadership that will be expected of them when their time to step into full-time employment comes around.

Through this scheme our partner hopes to play an instrumental part in rapidly building a core group of highly skilled and intelligent students who can go on to be the leaders of the future. These skills that our partner helps to nurture are becoming increasingly vital to the success of not just the students involved, but India as a whole. With a skill development capacity of 3.4 million per year and approximately 12-15 million people joining India’s workforce each year, the need for vocational and employability skills is crucial to young people looking for work following their education.

This is where you come in; we need an outgoing accountant with a positive attitude to assist our partner’s financial team so that the organisation can reach more people and help build better futures for a greater number of Indian students. As the organisation is still young, their finance team consists of 1 member of staff, who is already over-stretched with the organisation at the size that it is. It will be your task to provide support to the finance team and as such your role will be akin to undertaking an internal audit. You will be required to assess the financial controls and measures; including reviewing their processes for book-keeping and cash management. From here it would be highly appreciated if you could provide training in regards to Internal Reporting, the accounting IT systems and MS Excel so that the staff may continue to use these after you have completed your assignment.

You have a chance to make a real and visible difference using the skills that you may be taking for granted. Organisations of this size often lack the ability to acquire the skills that you already possess and as such your work will have a big impact on the capabilities of our partner organisation. Whether you’re looking for a new challenge, fancy a change in scenery or want to see if the international development sector is right for you then this is the perfect opportunity.

Accommodation will be provided for you and our partner has agreed to pick you up from the airport so that your adventure can begin. Please note that overseas assignments, in this case India, will incur a placement fee as per the AfID Tailored Volunteer Programme fee scale (see website for more details).
