Mentor Accountant for environmental conservation charity working towards educating teenagers and empower them find feasible solutions

 Our partner is a grassroots NGO based in the small town of San Juan del Obispo, a short ride outside of the beautiful city of Antigua. They work with teenagers and young adults, educating them on environmental issues of the area, and empowering them to find solutions, and assume leadership of the community in their fight to achieve environmental conservation.

The young people are taught to promote environmental awareness in their community, and learn about key issues such as improving the condition of local water, and the preservation of their natural resources.  They also teaches nutrition awareness and food sustainabiity, delivering cooking classes to help change the eating habits of the community.

They have recently moved the office into a hub which is a building central to working and living. The space is open for the young people and volunteers to work or stay, and comes equipped with technology, internet and a kitchen for food.

You will be the first AfID volunteer, and your role will be akin to undertaking a general assessment of their financial controls and procedures, identifying any weaknesses, and implementing any changes that you deem necessary. They have two members of staff who work on the accounts - a full time administrator, and a part time accountant. They have recently moved to Quickbooks, the accountant, is not familiar with the software. You will offer some training, and assist the accountant with using Quickbooks. The organisation is also due to receive some larger grants, and wants to ensure that all of their controls are robust before doing so. The Executive Director, Corrina, would also like to replicate the model elsewhere, and would like your help to see how robust their internal controls are, and make sure they are spending money in the correct places.

Accommodation is available within the Embassy, which will give you access to a fully equipped kitchen, internet, laundry facilities, and of course easy access to the office. Our partner would like someone for 2-4 Weeks. Intermediate spanish is required for this role.
