CAMEROON | Intrepid Accountant sought for a Microfinance Organisation

Operating on the original Grammen menthodology of microfinance, our partner was founded in 1998 in a bid to empower Cameroonians through the provision of microloans to be used as start up or expansion loan capital for individually chosen business activities or to cover the cost of emergencies. We were introduced to them by Whole Planet Foundation (WPF); they support communities in the countries that supply Whole Food Market stores through microcredit. WPF identifies local microcredit organisations and invests loan capital in these.

You will be the first volunteer on assignment, and your role will include undertaking a general assessment of their financial controls and procedures, identifying any weaknesses, and recommending and implementing any changes which you deem necessary. It would useful for you, as a qualified and impartial outsider, to review these and ensure they are suitably managing their funds and loans.

Additionally, the organisation does have some duplication in their processes, for example, on several occasions loan officers might be required to record information or complete documentation in more than one place. This has led to some lapses in full compliance of their processes, and they would benefit from an assessment of how these might be made more efficient.

Start date and length of the assignment: Flexible, 2-3 weeks.

Please note that overseas assignments, in this case Cameroon, incur a placement fee as per the AfID Tailored Volunteer Programme fee scale (see FAQs for more details).
