ZAMBIA | Grassroots Org. working with vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS

Our partner was introduced to us by their UK-donor, an organisation that was founded to support grassroots organisations working with vulnerable children affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

At the time, our partner was a group of women who had come together to do something positive for their communities – the high HIV prevalence in Chongwe District, where they are based, means that many families struggle to provide for vulnerable children in their care. Our partner now delivers training in agriculture, conservation farming, food processing, and business management for families. Over the last 10 years, they have grown from an informal group to a registered charity in Zambia.

In light of their fast and organic growth and in addition to the first volunteer brief, our partner has requested support in better allocating, managing and reporting back on donor funding. In other partners similar as our partner, volunteers have often found, that whilst the organisation will have programmes budgets, they will not have a comprehensive organisational budget and therefore an understanding on how much it costs to run the programmes and organisation, and cashflow forecasts, so this might be a natural extension to the work you are doing on donor fund management.

Our partner uses Excel, and they would appreciate further training on Excel, including an introduction to shortcuts that help with efficiency.

We would recommend this assignment to be just under 4 weeks because of business visa regulations in Zambia.

Please note that overseas assignments, in this case Zambia, incur a placement fee as per the AfID Tailored Volunteer Programme fee scale (see FAQs for more details).
