1.       Role purpose

Provide leadership for small charity whose business model is to:

·         Raise funds largely in the UK from private donations for projects that benefit disadvantaged and disabled children in Nepal and Peru
·         Agree projects and sponsorship with affiliated charities in Nepal and Peru
·         Provide funding for project execution in line with agreed plans
·         Communicate regularly with donors to explain how their generous donations are used

·         Agreeing and implementing an appropriate governance framework

3.       Areas for improvement compared to current situation

·         No CEO currently
·         Trustees, while highly committed to the charity, don’t have the time necessary to fill the gap created by the absence of a CEO
·         Existing affiliate charities in Nepal and Peru have highly capable teams but are under-funded vs their plans and ideas for the future
·         Scope for fundraising efforts to step up a gear (total income last year was approx. £50k)
·         Governance needs to be reviewed and improved, especially in relation to vulnerable beneficiaries such as disabled children
·         Communication with donors is sporadic and incomplete
·         Longer term strategy and resourcing can be substantially improved

4.       Profile of candidate sought

·         Willing to work for no compensation (charity cannot support a CEO salary)
·         Personal commitment to the work of the charity
·         Experienced manager with a broad skillset and experience, ideally including some form of fundraising
·         Understanding and practical experience of effective corporate governance and practical implementation
·         Clear communicator who can liaise with Trustees, donors, grant making organisations, volunteers and local affiliate staff

5.       Time commitment

·         The Trustees believe that this role can be managed successfully with a time commitment of approximately two days a week
·         Initial appointment would be for one year
·         Role would suit a retired executive/manager looking to ‘put something back’ and stay active in a new field
