MALI | Interim Accountant | 2-3 Months

Our partner is an award-winning social enterprise/ non-profit in West Africa that uses a mobile technology platform to provide a comprehensive set of services, which aims to double farm income and helps farmers move out of poverty. 
 
About this Role:
Our partner is seeking a highly-qualified accountant interested in a short-term opportunity to use their finance acumen to make an impact on the lives of thousands of farmers in the developing world. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accountant will play an important role in developing and strengthening the financial systems of this young and fast-growing social enterprise.
 
Key responsibilities may include:
• Financial Reporting and Monthly Accounting
• Oversee journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end closing
• Create and analyse monthly financial statements and provide variance analysis
• Assist the CFO and Director of Development with preparation of reports for grants, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial information
• Work with the finance team to create consolidated financial statements and perform the necessary analysis such as cash flow, budget reconciliation, etc.
• Strengthening of Long-term Financial Systems
• Design, review, and implement financial policies and protocols for the organization
• Identify ways to improve our risk management system to protect against fraud and/or cash mismanagement
• Coach and lead trainings for Mali-based finance staff to strengthen their capacity in accounting, financial analysis, and reporting
• Identify innovative ways to keep financial systems at par with new technologies

Requirements:
• English and French proficiency required.
• BS in Accounting, Finance or related field required
• 3+ years of work experience in financial accounting, reporting and/or audit in the US/Europe
• Highly organized and attentive to detail
• Flexible and adaptive work style. Able to thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
 
Preferred qualifications:
• CPA or equivalent highly desirable
• Knowledge of US GAAP and SYCOHADA; QuickBooks and/or other accounting software
• Familiarity with non-profit/grant accounting
