ETHIOPIA | Education Charity Working to Improve English and Increase Cultural Awareness

Our partner works through partnership with school communities to provide vital infrastructure, resourcing and training. They also support individual children through sponsorship, the provision of improved English teaching and increased cultural awareness between young people in Ethiopia and elsewhere through school linking.

They are currently undergoing considerable change having undergone a merger, and restructured their operations. Additionally, whilst ordinarily they have worked through existing schools in Ethiopia, they have embarked on an ambitious project, where they are building and setting up a new school.

They are seeking the support of an experienced finance professional:

  • To undertake an assessment of their accounting processes and systems, and internal controls bearing in mind their merger as well as restructure, ensure these are appropriate, and make and implement any recommendations as deemed necessary.
  • They do have budgets in place, however, they do not regularly monitor budgets vs. actuals. They are keen to prepare monthly management accounts and undertake variance analysis.
  • They have decided to transition to using Peachtree accounting system, and your role will include assessing categorisation of codes, and helping them make the most of the full functionality of the software, including completing reconciliations and generating reports.
  • They have a new Country Director and two new Regional Managers in place, none of whom have formal finance backgrounds. All would benefit from mentoring and understanding their responsibilities with regards to receiving and reviewing financial information.

Our partner is ideally seeking a volunteer for a period of 3 months, beginning as soon as possible. They will be able to cover the cost of flights and accommodation.

Please note that overseas assignments, in this case Ethiopia, will incur a placement fee as per the AfID Structured Volunteer Programme fee scale (click here for more details).
