EL SALVADOR | Grassroots Agricultural Organisation

Our partner is a grassroots organisation of subsistence farmers, and an alliance of three local Permaculture Associations. Their mission is to promote permaculture for the development of a healthier, wiser and more ecologically sustainable society.

Permaculture methodology uses the Farmer to Farmer approach where farmers learn from other more experienced farmers how to work together to improve the environment and produce more food; improve their water and health sustainably and develop confidence and self-reliance in the communities.

You would be the first AfID volunteer and would be based in a town located one hour away from the capital San Salvador. Your role would be will be akin to undertaking a general assessment of their financial controls and procedures, identifying any weaknesses, and recommending and implementing any changes which you deem necessary.

In addition the partner has requested training on general accounting and financial principles to strengthen the financial knowledge and capabilities of the three local Permaculture Associations and support with fiscal responsibilities such as VAT, tax reports and rent.

As with many of our South American partners, a Spanish speaker is required. They are looking for a volunteer to start as soon as possible with an assignment length of at least 4 weeks. Basic accommodation is offered for 100 USD per month including food.

Please note that overseas assignments, in this case El Salvador, incur a placement fee as per the AfID Tailored Volunteer Programme fee scale (see FAQs for more details).
