URGENT | BRISTOL/REMOTE | 1-2 days/month for 6 months Volunteer Management Accountant @ Social Justice Organisation

Our partner is a global charity committed to working with local partners in Africa to support marginalised individuals and communities to exercise their rights by finding African solutions to African problems, they have successfully changed the lives of thousands of women, men and children for the better.
 
Our partner is an international development organisation working with partners in Ghana and Tanzania. Through partners, they support local communities on issues of women’s rights, gender equality, girls’ education, secure livelihoods including land rights, and health rights. In the UK, they run global education projects. Through knowledge and confidence building we support poor and marginalised people to claim and exercise their rights.
 
With a core team of 7 staff, our partner relies on a network of volunteers and the input of its Board of Trustees to expand its capacity.  Since 2008 the number of grants funded by DFID, Comic Relief and Trust and Foundations has increased. Currently our partner manages two institutional donor grants, with two more in the pipeline, and a number of smaller grants from Trust and Foundations.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT
 
Responsible to the Chief Executive, to ensure the delivery of timely and accurate financial information as required by the Chief Executive, statutory bodies and other stakeholders, including donor organisations, external auditors, Inland Revenue and VAT inspectors.
 
Main responsibilities
 
General
Attend the office one day per month to complete monthly accounts, check payroll processing and book-keeping; provide telephone and internet support to the Finance Officer.
  • To produce quarterly and year-end management accounts to deadline.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts, and update management cash flows monthly.
  • Produce forecast Income and Expenditure Accounts and Balance Sheets.
  • Reconcile UK expenditure and ensure transfer of funds from/to project accounts.
  • Ensure that at least two independent back-ups of computer entries on Quick Books accounting software are maintained.
 
Statutory reporting
  • Perform year-end procedures. Prepare trial balances and draft accounts at the end of the year.  Prepare all the necessary working papers for auditors, assist auditors and clarify any queries raised.
Others
  • Attend Trustees’ meetings as required.
  • To be responsible for the continuous improvement and development of financial systems.
  • Together with the Trustees and the Chief Executive:
  • nhance strategic and business planning by providing cash flow forecasts and contributing to long-term business plans, and
  • Ensure the company has in place comprehensive systems for internal and external audit, compliance and risk management.
  • Carry out any additional finance related duties as required by the trustees or the Chief Executive.
