The roles will suit candidates with a sense of adventure and a love of travel, both attributes that are crucial to auditing internationally funded projects that are located throughout the world. Successful candidates could find themselves working in a close knit team in Europe or leading an exciting audit in Asia, Africa or Latin America. The work is principally expenditure audits of projects funded by international funding institutions in a range of sectors from emergency aid, to long term development in areas such as agriculture, health or infrastructure, to more commercial projects such as SME development or technical research.

There is an excellent career path in this rapidly expanding field of work which can involve a gradual move to more UK-based management role or alternatively an overseas posting to one of the firm’s IFI branch offices in Africa, Asia or Latin America.


Overview
 
Semi-Senior & Seniors undertake audit fieldwork as part of a team reporting to a Supervisor. On smaller assignments the Semi-Senior may take responsibility for assignment planning, leading the field work, leading the field visit opening and closing meetings and drafting the assignment report
 
The roles involve considerable travel on assignments to any part of the world.  These are mostly in Europe, but can be in locations in Asia, Africa or the Americas.  The roles will typically work as part of a two or three person team, including locally based staff
 
Specific responsibilities
 
Client assignments
 
·         Prepare to be out of office at client sites for 50% plus of the time conducting audits or special assignments
·         Demonstrate a good knowledge of public sector audit issues and techniques
·         Develop a good understanding of public sector client structures and the legal and contractual frameworks in which the assignments are performed
·         Develop a good understanding of International Standards on Auditing (ISAs)
·         Understand what constitutes an assignment finding and how it should be classified and written up in the assignment report
·         Be responsible for filling in the relevant parts of the audit programme and audit file
·         Be aware of assignment deadlines and work with the team to ensure deadlines are met
·         Achieve utilisation of at least 70% on an annual basis
 
Internal development of the Public Sector Group
 
·         Provide on the job training and guidance to more junior team members throughout the assignment process
·         Do job appraisals for more junior team members
·         Develop an awareness of the firm’s billing procedures, including charge out rates, budgeting and calculation of recovery rates
 
Other
 
·         Be aware of and comply with the firm’s policies at all times
·         Record time accurately using the Practice Management System
·         Attend the firm’s quarterly technical training seminars
·         Take on any other duties appropriate to the grade and level of responsibility
·         Be aware of the firm’s risk management and practice assurance procedures and ensure compliance
·         Ensure continuing professional development is kept up to date
·        
Identify soft skills requirements in conjunction with your appraising manager/partner and communicate such requirements to the training department

Attributes
 
·         Qualifications: Semi Senior - studying for ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent. Senior - newly qualified. 
·         At least two years audit experience in practice, preferably including public sector experience
·         Ideally worked for a top 20 firm
·         Ability to work under pressure with accuracy and focus
·         Sound technical and analytical skills
·         Good communication and presentation skills
·         Good report writing skills
·         Staff planning and supervision experience
·         Team worker
·         Adaptable and flexible in attitude
·         Public sector knowledge and interest
·         Second language, especially French, Spanish or German (desirable not essential)
·         Passionate about international travel
·         Willing to work in international locations for 50% plus of the time
