LONDON | Treasurer | Part Time 3 days per annum

Our charity partner is a trusted platform that promotes and facilitates mutual understanding, knowledge sharing and even-handed debate on climate change and the environment.
 
A UK registered charity with offices in London, Beijing, Sao Paulo and Delhi, the charity publishes under a Creative Commons licence, to encourage wide distribution of its material. The charity has a proactive strategy of wide publication on social media, content sharing agreements with such partners, this strategy makes the charity’s content delivery extremely. Our charity partner seeks to publish material in readily accessible form, so that it can be understood by wider circles of non-expert readers, as well as by climate and science insiders. 
 
Our charity partner is looking for a Treasurer for its board of trustees. This role includes not only financial oversight but will play a key fundraising advisory role, supporting staff and Executive Director.
 
Responsibilities
 
  • Oversee the financial affairs of the organisation and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice.
  • Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place.
  • Monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation.
  • Oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits.
  • Work with the CD team to develop a fundraising strategy and support staff through implementation of that strategy.
 
Specifically
 
  • Liaise with relevant staff, committee members and/or volunteers to ensure the financial viability of the organisation.
  • Make fellow committee members aware of their financial obligations and take a lead in interpreting financial data to them.
  • Regularly report the financial position at committee meetings (balance sheet, cash flow, fundraising performance etc).
  • Oversee the production of an annual budget and propose its adoption at the last meeting of the previous financial year.
  • Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures and controls are in place, ie:
1.       Cheque signatories
2.       Purchasing limits
3.       Purchasing systems
4.       Petty cash/ float
5.       Salary payments
6.       Pensions
7.       PAYE and NI payments
8.       Others as appropriate
 
  • Appraising the financial viability of plans, proposals and feasibility studies.
  • Lead on appointing and liaising with auditors/an independent examiner.
 
Qualities

  • Knowledge and experience of current and fundraising finance practice relevant to voluntary organisations.
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping and financial management (as necessary).
  • Good financial analysis skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Interest in, knowledge of China preferable
  • Interest in media and the role of media globally
  • Knowledge of key environmental issues helpful
