Our partner is a UK-registered charity dedicated to expanding access to ear and hearing healthcare in Cambodia, through a network of clinics and outreach services, and providing training to strengthen local health systems.

They are seeking a finance professional, ideally with some experience of charity finance, to serve as Treasurer. While a formal accountancy qualification is not essential, candidates should bring strong financial management skills, an understanding of budgets and controls, and the ability to communicate clearly with non-finance colleagues.

The Treasurer will oversee financial records, budgets, and accounts; ensure timely filings with the Charity Commission; maintain proportionate policies and a risk register; and co-sign higher-value transactions. They will advise the Board on strategy, risk, and sustainability, ensuring the charity’s financial health and good governance.

The Board meets twice a year plus an AGM (mostly remote, with occasional London hybrid meetings). The total estimated time commitment required is 0.5–2 days per month (flexible).

They seek a qualified accountant with senior financial management experience, ideally in the non-profit sector, to serve as Treasurer. Strong analytical skills and experience in risk management, internal controls, and audits are essential, along with the ability to explain complex financial matters clearly.

The Treasurer will oversee financial health, advise on strategic plans, review budgets and accounts, ensure compliance, and liaise with auditors. They will work closely with the Finance Director, Chief Executive, and Board to ensure sustainability and good governance.

The Board meets 4-5 times per year (two in London), with the Finance Committee meeting three times annually, mostly online. The total estimated time commitment required for the role is 1-2 days per month (flexible).

Set-Up & Coaching on Xero [676]

They are setting up a new office in Laos, and are seeking the support of a finance professional experienced in Xero to help set up their accounts, and coach the finance staff in the new set up.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and create the chart of accounts for the Laos entity, ensuring that it reflects the set up of the accounts in the parent entity and offers scope for consolidation as required, whilst meeting the financial compliance and tax requirements in Laos.
  • Coach the newly recruited Finance Coordinator & the current finance Manager on using the new system. This will extend to data entry, bank reconciliations, new project budget and reporting (covering monthly reports and P&L statements).
  • Ensuring that the accounting treatment for the bridging contract meets the requirements of the tax exemption granted to the parent entity.

They are seeking someone able to make a 2-3 hour weekly support over a period of 2-3 months, at the latest starting in early October.

Coaching of Non-Finance Heads [674]

Our partner is a wildlife conservancy, sustaining globally significant biodiversity; the adopt a sustainable business model with income generates from tourism, an agricultural business and grants & philanthropic support.

They are seeking the support of an experienced finance professional to offer coaching to their 11 non-finance Heads of Departments and Heads of Units. 3 years ago, they moved to a practice of getting the non-finance budget holders to take responsibility and ownership of the annual budgeting for their departments; this year, additionally, they are going to look to introduce them to annual planning. 

Your role will be to work with the non-finance heads to support and coach them through this process, ensuring that their annual plans and departmental budgets are aligned with the organisational budget. This will include:

  • Having an induction meeting with the Head of Finance to understand how the process has been developed, the tools that they are using, and the challenges they have faced with the process over the last two cycles.
  • Delivering group-based coaching on planning and budgeting to small groups of the non-finance heads. This may include short meetings to understand the work they do in their departments, and their own challenges in successfully completing their annual planning and budgeting. 
  • Offering some tailored support & advice individually to the department heads outside of the group-based training.
  • Whilst the focus will be on budgeting & annual planning, time permitting, they would also like to explore additional coaching covering understanding key accounting/finance terms and jargon, and how to interpret and use management reports. 

This exercise has been lead by the Head of Finance over the last two years; however, it has had its challenges, and that is why they are seeking the support of someone external to lead on facilitating the coaching. 

As their annual planning & budgeting and process has already started, they are seeking the support of someone able to start the placement from mid-September, offering 2-3 hours of weekly support, over a 3 month period.

They are seeking a strategically minded individual with significant experience in financial management to serve as Treasurer. The ideal candidate will be a qualified finance professional with the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly, and with a keen interest in the arts.

As a Trustee and Chair of the Finance Sub-Committee, the post holder will oversee the school’s financial health and sustainability, review and present draft budgets and management accounts, advise on reserves and investment policies, and ensure compliance with charity accounting standards.

The Board and Finance Sub-Committee both meet four times a year, with meetings currently taking place remotely. The minimum time commitment required for the role is 5 hours per month.

They are seeking the support of a volunteer accountant to help prepare and record their year end financial information on the Charity Commission website, and to renew their Gift Aid application. Their records are maintained in Excel and are kept in good order.

The work is expected to take no more than 15 hours in total and can be completed flexibly. The volunteer may also be asked to attend one trustee meeting if available. Experience preparing year end accounts for small charities would be helpful.

The Deputy Treasurer will support the Treasurer and the wider board with oversight of financial matters, ensuring the charity’s financial stability and legal compliance. This includes reviewing financial plans, budgets, and accounts, and offering strategic advice from a financial perspective.

They are looking for a qualified accountant with a strong commitment to social justice, especially in the context of migration and asylum. Lived experience of the asylum system is highly valued, and applicants from all backgrounds are warmly encouraged to apply.

The Board meets around 5 times per year, mostly online with 1 or 2 meetings per year in person. The total estimated time commitment required for the role is approximately 2 to 4 hours per month.

They are seeking the support of an AfID volunteer to help their leadership team build understanding and capacity around Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Working closely with board members and senior staff, the volunteer will facilitate discussions, training and practical planning sessions to explore how ESG values can be embedded into governance and long-term strategy.

Through this support, they aim to:

  • Strengthen understanding of ESG principles and their relevance to the organisation’s mission and partnerships
  • Align governance and decision-making with sustainability and ethical leadership standards
  • Identify practical next steps for integrating ESG principles into operations and strategy
  • Develop a short roadmap or action plan to guide future ESG initiatives and reporting

Our partner protects in perpetuity a collection of ceramics, archives and manufacturing artefacts, covering nearly 250 years of world-renowned Spode pottery production and a global manufacturing site with world class assets.

They run a small visitor centre, shop and café on the former Spode Works site. Given its size, comprehensiveness and location on the original site, this collection is unique in the UK as the sole surviving enterprise in industrial ceramics and very likely in the world.

They are looking to bring on board someone, either as a Trustee or Advisor, with the experience and ability to inform business planning, strategic development and financial management.

The post holder will also oversee monthly cash flow and forecasts based on bank statements, sales and expenditure as well as supervising the preparation of annual charity commission return accounts and tax return.

The organisation are very flexible in terms of what the role may look like, dependent on who they appoint, with a minimum time commitment of 6 meetings annually.

Their Finance Manager prepares cash accounts with the support of the Director, but does not feel sufficiently confident to prepare the year’s annual financial statements.

As such, they are looking for the support of an AfID volunteer to prepare professional annual statements for use internally and for dissemination to stakeholders and donors. Accounting records are all on computer in Excel and source documents are in monthly hard files.

The estimated time commitment required is up to 25 hours, and the placement is to begin in January 2026 with a required completion date of 14th February 2026.
