Trustee at Charity Helping Return Ugandan Children to their Families [392]

Our partner helps Ugandan children return to families by rebuilding family support systems, and developing family solutions to replace orphanages. They are looking to appoint a new Trustee with a charity finance background.


A Board member with a charity finance background has been identified as a key skill lacking in the current structure. They are specifically looking for the new Trustee to undertake the following key activities and responsibilities:

  • Compliance with governing document and charity law
  • Ensure proper financial contorls are maintained
  • Oversee development of strategy and support operational management
  • Safeguard good name and values of organisation
  • Active participation in 5 x board meetings per year and quarterly finance, risk and governance sub committee and programmes committee

The Board meets four times a year in Central London and generally take three to four hours. On occasion special meetings of the Board will be called by the Chair to address matters that come up between regularly scheduled meetings.

Treasurer at Education & Poverty Alleviation Charity [393]

Our partner funds a child care centre in Zambia, which supports over 250 chidren in schools, runs 2 homes with 30 students, has a feeding programme for external school children and administers a programme of 40 students in tertiary education.

Key tasks and responsibitlities

  • Control of funds – maintain separation of restricted & unrestricted funds
  • Keep up to date cash books and reconcile monthly with bank statements
  • Pay in cheques as received
  • Make reports to Board meetings on financial situation with budgets & forecasts
  • Liaise as required with donees
  • Liaise with sponsors of students in tertiary education for timely receipt of annual funds for onward remittance
  • Prepare Annual Accounts for Independent Examination

Time Commitment

It is estimated that the time commitment required is approximately 3 hours per week.

Research Project for NGO Supporting Farmers in Africa [391]

Our partner is a UK-based, Africa-focused charity, supporting the development of farmers and rural communities across Africa. The purpose of this volunteer role is to research and review the INGO sector for potential merger partners.

The international NGO sector is crowded and becoming more challenging due to increased fundraising legislation, public perception and pressure on existing fundraising channels. Our partner believes they can increase their impact and reach by working with partners in a variety of different ways. One option is by way of a merger, hence they wish to perform an extensive exercise to review the market for potential merger partners.The capacity of the current team is much stretched so they are unable to complete this vital exercise internally.

This is a standalone piece of work that can be performed outside of the office, after initial meetings. The intention is that a detailed report is prepared at the end of the assignment.

Person specification 

  • Experience of working in international development 
  • Experience in writing and presenting reports to senior leadership teams/Boards 
  • Good networking skills
  • Ability to work with own initiative and to tight timescales

Trustee at Performing Arts Charity Empowering Marginalised Women [388]

Our partner works with vulnerable and marginalised women and girls across Africa and Asia who are at risk of poor sexual and reproductive health, to help them find their voices, assert their rights and transform their futures.

They use a unique combination of drama and participatory learning to promote sustainable behaviour and policy change; particularly focusing on improving the sexual and reproductive health of their participants.

They are looking to build the capacity of their Board in financial management as the organisation grows. They are looking for a Trustee who can attend quarterly board meetings as well as review monthly management accounts, requests for funding and quarterly forecasts. It is anticipated that the time required would be the equivalent of one day per month.

Ideally, they are looking are looking for someone with senior level financial managemnet experience with familiarity of charity accounts.
