Naga Earth, Siem Reap, Cambodia

Naga Earth is a Social Enterprise working to protect the environment and public health in Cambodia. They work with partners in the hospitality industry to help them reduce the environmental and social impact of tourism on the industry. Their recycling projects include:

  • Biodiesel Project - converting used cooking oil into a clean diesel fuel replacement
  • Hygiene Soap – making environmentally friendly soap from the glycerine by-product which they give to NGO partners to use in their hygiene products with children. They are starting a project to distribute free soap to approximately 10,000 Cambodian families every month
  • Recycling Workshops – providing training on how to reduce single use plastic, how to make their own paper which can then be sold to hotel customers.

They also have recycling facilities on site and collect waste plastics, paper and food. They recycle plastic straws and turn them into useful items like business card holders and beer coasters, making a small revenue from sales of these.
