Our partner is an international children's charity that supports both emergency and long-term relief and development projects.
Job Purpose:
• The purpose of this role is to drive the quality, efficiency, and accuracy of accounting, controls, and processes within the Finance Transactions team
• Key accountabilities include:
- Ensure the design and effective operation of a strong financial control framework
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, policies, VAT and Gift Aid requirements
- Drive and improve systems and processes
- Lead the income and controls team and act as deputy to the Finance Transactions Manager
Key accountabilities:
• Lead, manage and motivate the income and controls team
• Ensure timely and well-controlled operation of income accounting and controls and the interface.
• Efficient and effective financial processing - ensuring that finance processes are performed accurately and on a timely basis.
• Oversight of arrangements for New Fundraising projects including new payment methods and income processes
• Assess risks within processes and design and implement controls to mitigate these
• Control – ensure that appropriate controls are exercised including proper performance and timely clearance of:
- monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- bank account reconciliations
- control accounts and suspense accounts
- interfaces with other systems well-managed etc.
• Review reconciliations - for all of the above
• Ensure financial process and systems integrity,
• liaise with key customers within the business to define/refine
• design, collate and review monthly statistics on team productivity and adherence including the Agresso balance sheet account status report
• Ensure financial process and systems integrity, including ensuring that the Fundraising Income Database Interface is operating correctly and that any issues are quickly identified and resolved
• Ongoing improvement - identify areas where processes could be improved and take the lead in implementing relevant changes including maximising benefits from Agresso
• Deputise for the Finance Transactions Manager as required
• Undertake specific project work and carry out other tasks contributing to the Finance Transaction team’s annual work plan as required
Person specification
Essential Technical Skills:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to be able to respond to a wide range of queries and to support the team to develop appropriate and robust processes, procedures and practices
• Proven ability to use own initiative to develop and implement robust financial controls and drive improvements to systems and processes; able to take responsibility for issues and proposals until fully resolved
• Experience of and ability to leverage different IT systems; strong Excel skills
Education/Professional Skills:
Qualified accountant (ACA or equivalent) with relevant financial accounting and controls experience in the commercial or charity sector
