Kazi Yetu, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Kazi Yetu is a start-up social enterprise that works with local agri-businesses to scale, increase quality, and access international markets.

In 2018, they launched their first brand – Tanzania Tea Collection. 90% of the tea grown in Tanzania goes to the Mombasa Tea Auction in its raw form; with the processing and packaging taking place elsewhere, a number of Tanzanians are missing out on job opportunities. Kazi Yetu procures team, cinnamon, and other spices and herbs from organic and fair-trade farms in Tanzania; these are then taken to a small factor in Dar es Salaam, where they are processed & packaged and sold in-country. With this one product, they are hoping to create a model whereby they are able to increase market opportunities for agri-businesses and farmers, connecting them with donors, impact investors and business accelerators, whilst meeting the demand from consumers to purchase goods that they can trace back to farms, and ensure that these are organically produced and fair-trade.
