Who designs the volunteer assignment?

Partners will be required to create detailed terms of reference for each assignment using an AfID template. This document will also record expected key deliverables, reporting lines & requirements, your preferred selection process the resources a partner can provide to the volunteers.

If a new partner is unsure about their specific needs and has simply identified a weakness or an issue that needs addressing urgently our volunteers will use the first week of their assignment to scope for more detailed long term terms of reference before focusing on agreed priorities.

The duration of each assignment will depend on the availability of local staff, the nature of the agreed terms of reference and our volunteer’s own availabilities. Therefore we will agree appropriate assignment lengths before commencing the selection process. Assignment lengths will vary from 2 weeks to 12 months. Please note volunteers plan their assignment typically 2 to 3 months in advance of travel, so the more notice we have from you the more likely it is that we will be able to find someone suitable.

Can we interview/ meet the volunteer?

Yes, we encourage active involvement at the selection process however we do not provide short lists and, based on our experience and expertise in this area, we expect the first candidate to be successful.
