Permaculture Research Institute, or "PRI-Kenya", aims to provide an umbrella for permaculture education, projects and research in East Africa and give East African communities the tools they need to build empowered, self-sufficient, climate change resilient, healthy and food-secure communities.

PRI’s model aims to see each project develop into an ecological enterprise that is financially independent, having development several markets for economic resilience whilst at the same time ensuring food security and environmental regeneration.

PRI also exist to support local farmer groups and women’s groups they work with, to set up as self-sufficient ‘regenerative enterprises’, providing a sustainable income and show that this can be done whilst regenerating the environment and providing food and nutrition security for the community.

Finally, PRI also offer support with capacity building & technical support on permaculture, enterprise skills, organisational development, value addition, processing and marketing as well as fundraising. 
 
Their ‘programmes’ are essentially their partners – and the progress that they have made with them. The main programme themes include:
